The Olympics 2012

The 2012 Olympics are to be held in Blighty.

I’ve become mildly more interested in athletics mainly due to the Fantastic Four: Stefan Holm, Kajsa Bergkvist, Carolina Kluft and Christian Olsson.

It’s enough for a small country to have just one superstar in the field of athletics at any one time, but to have this many competing is very exciting for Sweden.

I’d be willing to go to England to see the Olympics (just think, Freya will be eight years old), since it’ll be a superb atmosphere. I wonder, though, how many of the current stars will be competing then.

Birthday Girl

Jo’s birthday today. Despite taking Freya and letting her sleep in, she awake an hour after we did, possibly with excitement and expectation. She was not to be disappointed.

From me she got a Nintendo DS and Wario Ware Touched game, a fantastic, if not short, game.

Other presents from the family included a lawn-trimmer, paint-remover gun and a very long extension cable. Not the most conventional of gifts, but truly appreciated, especially since we’re renovating our house.

Pink Floyd: Back In Action

In conjunction with the G8 meeting, a live event, organised by Sir Bob Geldof (he of The Boomtown Rats and organiser of the original Live Aid concert) was televised on TV today.

Jo and I waited patiently for 10 hours for the (I think) penultimate act: Pink Floyd.

This was not just Pink Floyd as they are now, which would have been good enough, but reunited with Roger Waters. The band put aside their personal differences to play a few songs in Hyde Park.

All I can say is that it was worth the 10 hours of reasonable, and not so reasonable, bands just to see them.

About 100,000 people were in Hyde Park today. If the ‘normal’ Pink Floyd were to play three songs free of charge anywhere they would get this size of audience. Think how many would come (area permitted) to a paying Pink Floyd mini-concert with all the original members (sorry, LSD fnas, Sid does not count).

One Giant Step For Mankind

We’ve just heard on the news that 18 countries will have their debts dropped. A total of $40bn will be simply forgotton by the IMF, the World Bank and the African Development Fund.

I wonder how Bono feels.

Freya’s Dictionary

Whilst there are doubtless many things we haven’t been able to translate, here is a list of Freya’s known words:

cat, Formula 1 car (bit like a cat), bird, duck (bird-like), cow, goat, pig, dog (birdish qualities), horse, fish (same as a kiss) and hand-mixer (very cat-like).

A few weeks ago she started to clap her hands and point to things, the latter lead to much repitition of things from our side: “lamp, lamp, lamp, butterfly, lamp, lamp” etc.
