The Good Old Days of Modems

We are currently without our broadband connection, having to wait 4 weeks while our Internet-provider transfers our account to our new address. In the short space of time we have been using a modem for our Internet requirements, I have come to a simple, yet well-known, conclusion: Modems suck.

Whereas we would be connected most of the day with broadband, I have hardly been surfing these last two weeks. Everything I need to do, including this blog, I do at work.

I tried to listen to my football team last Saturday, which I normally do every weekend. There was so much lag (when I wasn’t being disconnected, that is), that I stopped listening after the first half.

I wonder how long it will be before modems are made obselete in Sweden. The sooner the better.

Trying to play with words

The Swedish online telephone directory, Eniro, have a series of adverts on TV at the moment. The slogan that they have chosen to use to promote their site is “Eniro: find it easy.”

I really hope that the company is not trying to play with words, in an attempt to be witty. “Find it easy” is a reasonably good slogan at face value, but I wonder if they also meant it to mean “Find it easily”, in which case they have made a faux pas. I’m not even sure if “easy” is the correct adverbal form in America, despite its accepted use.

My crusade against terrible adverts continues.

A Change Of Surroundings

Well, it seems like we’re moving flats tomorrow. Jo found a 3 room flat just opposite where we live now that is more than double the area we currently live in.

We’d been seriously contemplating buying a boat for 1.2 million crowns (c£90,00). It was totally renovated, and was absolutely lovely, and was docked not far from the centre of the city, over the river from Statshuset (the place where the Noble Peace prize is awarded). All in all, it would have been perfect, except it was a little bit small for a family of three.

We’ll still be looking at other places to live. Our new place is a second-hand contract, which means the same thing could happen to us there: that we get thrown out.

Superhero? Pfft!

I saw the Mouse Man advert that I auditioned for today. I must say, either I’m completely crap in front of a video camera, or I didn’t try hard enough to be stupid. The person who got it was fat and without personality.

I know I’m being subjective and bitter about it, but I was far better as Mouse Man.

A Change Of Lifestyle

We got a phone call from our landlord (an ex-work colleague) yesterday. Due to family problems, he needs the flat. We now have three months to find something new.

3 months is not a great deal of time. We could, I’m sure, find another place to live reasonably easily, but our needs and preferences make the job a lot trickier.

After the first minute of minor-shock, we both came to the conclusion that this was actually an opportunity for change. We have no idea where the next few months will take us. Luckily, we have a house in the north of Sweden, so homelessness is not an option. Will we be living in Stockholm? Will we have the same jobs? I am looking forward to what happens.
