My Mind Is Scrabbled

We asked for, and received, a Swedish Scrabble set for Chrimbo. Having played Scrabble since I was 12, I found it nearly impossible to play in another language.

That said, we did get a combined score of 571. Pretty standard, though in the two weeks following we got a more respectable 700 and something. I even managed to get all my letters out on a triple-word score with “nuddades.”

Development News

Yesterday Josefin noticed definite toothage : two to be exact. Now comes the joy of the teething baby.

I still have difficulties beleiving just how happy she is. It seldom happens that she cries (even when teething or being ill/tired), and how little sleep she needs. In an average day she may only sleep for an hour during daylight, then almost right through the night. It may be tempting to have another little sibling for Freya, though are we pushing our luck?

Well, just this last day I’ve noticed some definite changes in Freya.

First, she’s beginning to get Josefin’s eyes.

More importantly and impressively, she’s really starting to use her hands to study things. Before, she was flailing her arms out to just grab stuff, though now there seems to be an ulterior motive : to feel and explore objects and there relative distance. We wake up every morning to Freya grabbing our noses or pinching our cheeks. Not the most pleasant method of waking up, granted, but sweet nonetheless.

Space Invaders Couldn’t Be Bothered, So They Went Home

This year marks the 25th anniversary of one of the classic video games in history : Space Invaders.

25 years and still going strong. There can’t be a mobile telephone in production that hasn’t some variation of this game available. Numerous sites offer Flash/Java incarnations. Even two of the kids at my school are currently playing it as I write.

So, in this special year, what have Midway or Taito done to celebrate? Well, perhaps I’ve missed it, but the only things I can find are a t-shirt and multi-platform game, which includes a 3D version.

Someone, somewhere, has missed a golden opportunity to earn some dublons.

I haven’t seen a single competition, book, TV program, poster or range of merchandise (except the aforementioned t-shirt.) I haven’t even begun to rack my brain for further money-making ideas, and I’m sure any marketing geek worth his/her salt could do a lot better than my suggestions.

Space Invaders truly missed its opportunity to take over the world.
